1973 Norton Commando 850 Roadster

My friend Scott bought this first-year Commando 850 brand new in 1973. And as a meticulous sort he saved not only every piece of original paperwork like the purchase contract, showroom brochure, and more but also saved a file of every period magazine he used to research the Superbikes of the day- the same ones that led him to pick this Norton.

Now, Scott was younger then and he did make two modifications. One is brown leather stitched into the seat. The second one was the application of some kind of plant he painted on the rear taillight housing. Scott owns a big landscaping firm now, I guess he’s always had a green thumb?

But one things for sure he always took incredible care of this Commando. So good, in fact, that it is completely unrestored and all original- paint, chrome, the works. I bought it from Scott in 2002 and for the past 17 years I’ve tried to take Just as good of care of It. I guess in another 22 years we’ll see If I do as good as Scott did during his 29 years of ownership!
