1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite

Mrs. Comer’s Race Car

Just to prove that I am not the only one around here that loves vintage racing, here is my lovely bride Cana’s pride and joy- her 1959 Austin Healey Sprite. She races it in VSCDA and SVRA vintage events in F/Production.

A race car since new, it is most famous for being the ex-Tom Colby car better known as “Kablooie.” I’d have to look through the old log books but over the last 40 years or so I think this little car has won about 200 races. It is powered by a race prepped 1275 GG engine with a Taylor racing built “Ribcase” gearbox, and a welded 4.22:1 diff.

2012 saw Cana and Kablooie setting a track record at Road America and becoming the 2012 Winner of the VSCDA’s 2012 Sprite/Midget Challenge Series. In 2013 Cana not only again won the VSCDA’s Sprite/Midget Challenge Series but was also named the VSCDA’s Driver of the Year in the process.
