1995 Roush Trans Am Mustang #030

This is the famous ex-Jon Gooding, Jack Roush Racing built and campaigned Mountain Dew Mustang. It is chassis #030. While its primary driver was Jon Gooding it is also reported that Tommy Kendall and others drove it during its Roush days from 1995-1997.

#030’s history with Roush and Gooding was: 1995: 11 races, finished 10th in the series. 1996: 14 races, finished 10th. 1997: 12 races, 4 podium finishes, 4th overall in series.

After Roush it went to Paul Gentilozzi’’s Rocketsports Racing, then to ace TA driver and NASCAR team owner Dale Phelon/ Phelon Motorsports who raced #030 extensively in vintage. I purchased it from Dale’s estate after his untimely passing in 2012.

I have continued to race 030 since 2012 and we’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of podiums together. It is absolutely one of my favorites of all the cars I have ever raced. Beyond the “magic” in those Roush frame tubes at 2850 pounds with almost 800HP, some big old slicks and a ton of thunder out of the pipe there is nothing that beats driving a great Trans Am car!
