What collection of high-performance Ford and Shelby automobiles would be complete without a Ford GT Supercar? These limited production, 212 MPH modern interpretations of the original GT40 were produced in only 2005 and 2006.
In 2005 I was lucky enough to get a spot in the “Ford Executive” allocation of 2006 GT’s. Meaning, I was able to spec out my dream GT and be its original owner. I took delivery of this beast in January of 2006.
Of course, the stock 550HP wasn’t good enough, so with the help of a Ford engineer, we coaxed out 679 RWHP with some simple mods and Ford Racing headers and exhaust. We then lowered the suspension to Ford’s “optimum” height and dialed in the alignment…oh, and of course I had to make the BBS wheels a titanium color as I despise shiny wheels.
Not only is the performance incredible in all respects but these are actually fantastic road cars as well. In fact I regularly drive my GT to open track events, exercise it on the track, and then drive it home with the A/C on. A true dual-purpose Supercar!
I give Ford all the credit in the world for having the guts to build these halo cars and thank them for staying so true to the original GT40 design.
Just as Ford did in the 1960’s, again, they beat Ferrari at their own game!
